After having a lovely breakfast, our excursion is to discover Sumatran Orangutans, 1 day jungle trek tour in Bukit Lawang, Gunung Leuser National Park. This trip takes around 5 to 7 hour’s jungle trekking which is quite doable and suitable at any age.

Another adventure day trip from Bukit Lawang Sumatra Indonesia is going to visit Tangkahan for Elephant Riding and Washing (Bathing). Tangkahan village is the most well-known friendliest Sumatran Elephant Conservation Camp in NORTH Sumatra, Indonesia.
Due to the road conditions and distance needed, therefore the only quickest way to reach Tangkahan with safety priority is to take the shortcut path driving through palm oil plantation trails. Our journey from Bukit Lawang to Tangkahan takes approximately 2.5to3hours’ drive with a few stop along our way to Tangkahan. The trip begins to slowly cruise the dense rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park border, North Sumatra. It is about 30-45 minutes wonderful ride to reach the Elephant Conservation Camp which led by professional talented friendly Mahouts.
This opportunity is indeed the most appropriate way for you to experience how they actually work on their primary duty. To intensively patrol and guard the wilderness of jungle from any illegal and suspicious activities likes animal poaching, illegal logging as well as villages. And sometimes you might bump into the wild elephant tracks (foot prints) by chance during the jungle trek elephant riding.

DAY 4 | Bukit Lawang to BERASTAGI Karo Highland | NORTH Sumatra
The Indonesia 2 week itinerary holidays continues from Bukit Lawang Sumatra to Berastagi, the lovely volcanic town of Karo Highland. Our coffee break at Panorama Pamah Simelir hill after 3 hours driving journey would be a great stop point. And then we continue cruising the magnificent landscape around the countryside area of Sinabung Volcano.
After reaching Berastagi, we will take our chance to explore traditional market in Berastagi and then lunch break. Then we proceed driving to visit the most famous Pagoda in Sumatra Indonesia, Lumbini Buddhist Temple Park. Then we carry on driving to the impressive landscape of Gundaling hill for a splendid coffee break whilst enjoying the beautiful view of Sibayak and Sinabung active volcanoes. Finally we check in hotel (Berastagi) around noon and then free program on your leisure.
DAY 5 | Mount SIBAYAK VOLCANO CLIMBING – Berastagi to Toba Lake (Samosir Island) | NORTH Sumatra
On this trip, we have two excursions to accomplish. First one is to hike up to the summit of Mount Sibayak Volcano quite early in the morning. And after that our journeys continues from Berastagi to Lake Toba (Samosir Island), the biggest caldera in Sumatra Indonesia.
Our Mount Sibayak Volcano climbing trip in Berastagi would be much better to start quite early in the morning (around 04h00) in order to catch up the magnificent sunrise. (Also possible after early breakfast). First of all, we begin driving to the starting point of Mount Sibayak which is roughly 30minutes away from Berastagi. Then we slowly start hiking up to the top reaching the Gunung Sibayak Volcano summit.
After reaching the summit of Sibayak, we will enjoy the magnificent landscape of Berastagi Highland as well as Sinabung Volcano. The easy lovely hike takes around 90minutes to two hours and likewise in return nearly takes the same time.
Then we move further to Sidebuk debuk hot springs situated on the foot of Mount Sibayak for happy ending relaxations after the lovely volcano hiking experience. After that we carry on driving to Berastagi town for lunch break.
Berastagi to TOBA LAKE (Samosir Island)
On our journey from Berastagi to Samosir Island – Lake Toba, we will have some QUICK STOPS to visit Dokan Village, the authentic traditional Batak Karo village. Then our trip proceeds to the most fabulous interesting places around North Sumatra, the charming Sipiso-piso waterfall. Later on we proceed driving to the King Purba Palace, the ancient traditional Bolon House at Simalungun regency.
After that we continue driving to Panorama Simarjarunjung for a fabulous coffee break with the northern landscape of Toba Lake. Finally our journey proceeds to Parapat or Tiga Rasjetty to get a ferry/boat across Toba Lake to Samosir Island. Then we eventually check in hotel on Samosir Island (Toba Lake) around late noon.
DAY 6 | LAKE TOBA CULTURAL Tour around Samosir Island | NORTH Sumatra
The Toba Lake culture tour is about to explore the most famous tourist attractions around Samosir Island North Sumatra, Indonesia. Our first visit will be at the ancient stone chair site of King Siallagan court-yard situated at Ambarita village which is overwhelmed with typical Bolon houses. Then we will continue driving to Simanindo village to enjoy the traditional performance of Batak Toba dancing. And after that we are going to take our lunch break around Tuktuk area.
Then we continue our trip to visit Tomok village to see the ancient tombs site of King Sidabutar (sarcophagus). Then we carry on to Panorama Sigarantung Parhalow to have a splendid coffee break with enchanting view of southern Panorama Lake Toba – Samosir Island. After we are done with all the famous highlights around Samosir Island and then we return to your hotel.

DAY 7 | Transit trip from PARAPAT (Lake Toba – Samosir Island) to BUKITTINGGI – Stay overnight in PADANG SIDEMPUAN | NORTH Sumatra
The Indonesia 2 Week Itinerary holidays around Lake Toba (Samosir Island) will continue from Parapat to Bukittinggi (Padang) WEST Sumatra. This tour ideally starts at 07h30(07.30am) from your hotel (Samosir Island) to catch a boat crossing Lake Toba to Parapat.
On our transit trip, we will stay overnight in Padang Sidempuan which is about halfway in between Parapat (Lake Toba) to Bukittinggi (Padang). During our journeys to Padang Sidempuan, we will visit Balige traditional market known with its typical Batak Toba house roof-top. And then a short coffee break will be at Panorama Gurgur, the magnificent southern panorama Lake Toba. After that another 1 hour drive to Tarutung (known as the lovely religious Christian town) for our lunch break. We continue driving further about 2hours’ to Sipirok village for a short coffee break at a lovely mountainous countryside area. Finally we travel farther around 90 minutes’ drive and check in hotel in Padang Sidempuan around late noon.
DAY 8 | Padang Sidempuan to BUKITTINGGI Highland | WEST Sumatra
Our lovely journey from Padang Sidempuan will continue farther to Bukittinggi (Padang) West Sumatra, Indonesia. Some beautiful stops will certainly be made along the trip. Our first stop will be at Sihepeng village for a lovely coffee break. Sihepeng village is such mini botanical gardens where you can see varieties of typical Sumatran spices grow around here. After that we will carry on driving to Kotanopan village surrounded with rice fields for our lunch break.
Our journey continues further crossing the border in between North-West Sumatra province, the Minangkabau Matrilineal Highland. After reaching Minangkabau West Sumatra region, we will have a short break at the fabulous natural Panti hot spring. And then we go on driving further to have lovely stop at the well-known Bonjol Equator Lane West Sumatra. Finally we continue driving straight to Bukittinggi which takes around 90 minutes’ drive and check in hotel around late noon.
DAY 9 | Bukittinggi – MANINJAU LAKE Countryside Tour | WEST Sumatra
Lake Maninjau countryside tour begins from Bukittinggi by visiting Panorama Park, the fascinating overlook point of Grand Sianok Canyon Bukittinggi. After that we proceed to Koto Gadang Village to see how the local people make traditional handmade silver with its typical Minangkabau designs. Then we will drive a bit further for a lovely coffee break at the magnificent view of Panorama Sungai Landia. And then we move farther to Puncak Lawang, a lovely top point to overlook at fabulous view of Maninjau Lake. (In case, if you are interested in trying the Zip Lining and Paragliding (Parachuting), grab your chances here). And then our journey proceeds driving down to Maninjau Lake via the impressive Panorama Kelok 44 hairpin road. After reaching Maninjau Lake, it is now our time to finally enjoy the beach while relaxing, having lunch and even swimming.
From Maninjau Lake we travel back to Bukittinggi around noon which approximately takes around 60 minutes’ drive to grab a superb coffee break at the lovely Taruko Village which is located at the bottom of the panoramic Grand Sianok Canyon Bukittinggi. And we finally return to your hotel in Bukittinggi which approximately takes 15 minutes’ drive.
DAY 10 | Bukittinggi – MINANGKABAU Cultural Tour – HARAU VALLEY Countryside Tour | WEST Sumatra
The combinations of Minangkabau Matrilineal Culture and Harau Valley countryside tours which starts from Bukittinggi by heading towards Batipuah Village. We are about to discover the amazing authentic building of Minangkabau mosque with its original architecture located in Batipuah village. It is called as ‘Surau’ which was constructed with its incredibly unique bull horn roof top. Then we proceed driving to Singkarak Lake for a quicky coffee break.
Our journey continues to Balimbiang village to discover the old traditional Minangkabau houses, especially “Rumah Tuo Kampai Nan Panjang”. The authentic Minangkabau long house (Called as ‘Rumah Gadang’) which was built without any nails and thatched roof top. Then our lunch break will be at Sungai Tarok village surrounded with amazing terraced paddy fields landscape. Then we proceed driving to Batusangkar to discover the highlights of Minangkabau Highland West Sumatra tourism Indonesia, “Istana Pagaruyung (Palace)”. It is such the most fabulous building architecture of ‘Rumah Gadang’ or ‘Rumah Bagonjong’ Minangkabau traditional big house.
Then we drive further to Panorama Tabek Patah for a lovely coffee break whilst enjoying the magnificent terraced rice paddy field surrounded by Bukit Barisan Range Mountains. And our trip continues farther about 90 minutes’ drive to finally reach the impressive Harau Valley. We will explore Harau Valley at glimpse and then grab a short marvellous coffee break at Abdi Homestay Harau Valley. Finally we return to Bukittinggi before the sunset which takes around 90minutes’ drive to be back at your hotel.
DAY 11 | Bukittinggi to PADANG – ISLAND BEACH Resort | WEST Sumatra Indonesia
