The cultural heritage building of Tjong A Fie Mansion is one of the most impressive interesting places to visit around Medan, located around 2 km away from Maimun Palace and Medan Grand Mosque.

Tjong A Fie was born in 1860 as Tjong Fung Nam in Meixian district, Guangdong, China. He built the 2 storey building with 35 rooms in 1895 – 1900, on the area of 8000 sq meter. The Mansion itself has got Chinese, Malay and Art Deco influences in its architecture style.

The brilliant businessman who successfully built his business in Medan surroundings during the Dutch Colonial occupation passed away in 1921. By the end of his life, Tjong A Fie businesses covered real estate, mining, banks, railroads, coconut, tobacco, tea, rubber, palm oil and sugar plantations.
