Jam Gadang - Clock Tower Bukittinggi West Sumatra

The tower has got four clocks made in Recklinghausen Germany by Bernard Vortmann and was shipped via Rotterdam. Each clock face has a diameter of 80 centimetres. These were the gifts from the Queen Wilhelmina from Netherland.

It is a very unique building where the clocks use “IIII” for the number 4 instead of the traditional Roman number “IV”. The tower’s base is 13 by 4 metres and it stands 26 metres tenaciously erected strategically in the heart of Bukittinggi downtown and was built in 1926 during the Dutch colonial time.
